PS3
The Playstation 3 console system designed by Sony Entertainment features the increasingly popular Blu-Ray technology. The Playstation 3 has the most advanced technology so far in 2009 but the cost is also the most expensive between the PS 3, Nintendo’s Wii, and Microsoft’s Xbox 360. The Playstation 3 was initially launched in Japan but had launched in North America 6 days later on November 17th 2006 and debuted with a 20GB low end model and with a 60GB higher end model.
So far the best selling game for the Playstation 3 is MotorStorm which has sold over 3.3 million copies worldwide. In November 2008 Playstation 3 launched its 160 GB Hard Drive in the United States.
So far worldwide over 16 million PS3’s have been sold with 520,000 sold in Canada, over 5 million in Europe, 1.8 million in the UK, 2.3 million in Japan, and 5.7 million in the United States. The amount of units sold still pales in comparison to the Nintendo Wii which has sold over 34.5 million units worldwide which is nearly double that of the PS 3.
The Playstation 3 had a massive increase in sales of over 285% in Novemeber 2007 when it did a major price cut of the console as well Nintendo could not keep up with demand and wasn’t able to sell enough units.
One main advantage PS 3 consoles have over XBOX 360 consoles is the ability to connect wirelessly to the internet for free. Currently Xbox offers a paid subscription known as Xbox live which members pay monthly or $59.99 per year.
