Blu Ray

Blu Ray discs are a new technology that can store over 50 gigabytes of data, which is six times more then a dual layer DVD. The amount of data you can store on a single Blu Ray disc is amazing.

Blu Ray won the DVD war with HD DVD when the main supplier Toshiba announced it was going to halt production of HD DVD players and discs. All other companies that were producing HD DVD discs followed Toshiba’s footsteps and hence the war over the future of formats was over. The Blu Ray format was developed by the Blu-Ray Disc Association which is a consortium of manufacturers that create electronics, motion pictures, and computer hardware.

Currently the UK has the most Blu Ray titles available in the world including the United States. There are over 1,140 titles that carry the blu-ray format. The blue-ray format was actually finalized in 2004 and it was in January of 2005 that it was announced that there was a hard coating of polymer for Blu-Ray discs.

Blu_Ray is also known for having stronger security methods then the HD DVD and many people believe that thanks to the PS 3 it helped gain the popularity for Blue-Ray which led to its eventual vistory over HD DVD. In fact Blu-Ray had started to outsell HD DVD’s  by a ratio of two to one and Toshiba pulled the plug in February of 2008, declaring the Blu-Ray the victor.
